一个实用有效的英语教学策略

The strategy of classroom activity was ofen neglected by many people in the past.But nowadays more and more people consider classroom activity as one the crucial factor in ELT.

 

I.Importance of successful classroom Activity

with the rapid ELT development in china. More and more classroom activities are used in class.Choosing a good classroom activity is becoming important in ELT.

Successful classroom activity can cause students’ curiousity interest and attention. It can express vividly and incisively a certain language scence to make learning efficient. At the same time,it can provide students more opportunities to use and touch English and encourage students participate in all kinds of activities.In practice,Each of students can gire full play to their potentiality. So it is obvious that successful classroom activity is practical and important strategy in ENT.

 

II.The Requirements of successful classroom Activity

Although successful classroom activity can promote ELT,we shalld pay attention to the following aspects.

A. The atmosphere

A positive atmosphere can make students have a good time in using and organizing classroom activity. It is one of the most important variable in successful language learning.It can increase and maintain the motivation of students.students have a high emotion,They are eager to speak,when the topic is interesting or there is a clear objective that must be reached . It still can help students aware of the general “feel”, so that they are always willing to learn in this environment.

B. The group

As a group,it should have a sense of fun. There are perfectly healthy situations where two groups compete against each other:quizzes,drama,role play and games. It can provide the activity is kept light—heared and fun. Inter—class activities and games where one class competes with or interacts with another can help group cohesion by giving the class a sense of themselves as a group,at the same time,they can provide a bit of fresh air and a release from the group, in the shape of new people to talk to and new ideas.

C. the role of the teacher

Although many people consider the role of the teacher an important component of efficient classroom activity, Some researchers regard it as part of the design of a approach.Based on the functions that the teacher performs in different activitees, Harmet defines the teacher, participant and resource—provider(Harmer,1983:201).Let us see the further pay attention to the different roles that teacher play in successful classroom activity.

 

III.The Principles of Successful Classroom Activity

The main purpose of the syllabus is to foster students’ listening,speaking,reading,writing.so we should integrate classroom activities into these four skills in ELT. Of course,In this process,we also should ensure Participation.

A. Integrating classroom activities into syllabus

We have talked about the four language skills and the need to integrate them into our classroom activities in ELT. When we communicate,we often use more than a single language skill.For instance,we interview others as reporter in classroom activities.We listen and speak and write down a message and then read over what we have written.In the same way,if students are able to read a short story ,this skill will help them to write their own story and if they can understand a dialogue about buying things in a shop,they can use this as a model for practiseing their own speaking skills in a similar situation,Also,integrating the skills allows you build in more variety into the classroom became the range of activities will be effective in ELT.

B. Ensuring participation

A frequent problem in classroom activities is that not all members participate equally in discussions.Some times a dominant member or members will take over a discussion completely, while shyer students are unable to get a word in edge ways.

It is difficult to deal with both types of students.The dominant members may be forceful or somewhat aggressive people.but often they are simply lively,enthusiastic,talkative students who contribute a great deal to the class,and it is hard to encourage the others to talk more,and them to talk a bit less,without dampening their enthusiasm.students who make litte contribution to discussions may be shy or quiet people in their own language.It is hard suddenly to be required to change their habits.Activities that give such students something to say.rather than those which require invention.and activities which make turn—taking in a discussion into a kind of game rather than a real—life decision,may help with this problem.

 

IV.Summary

From the above,we can know successful classroom activity should be full dynamic and positive atmosphere to make learning more effective.It can not only improve their thought and competence of action,but also open up their thinking and fostet their four basic skills.At the same time.It is benefit for understanding knowledge what they have learned in class.Variable classroom activities.Cater for a range of learning styles so all students participate and involve actively bothe cooperativeness and competitiveness among group members,and it can make students master and use the English language naturely and instinctively in class.Becides,it can make their gain more confidence in their ability to learn and use classroom activity.So it is clear that successful classroom activity is a practical and crucial strategy in effective ELT.
